Porsche’s Leipzig Plant Celebrates the 500,000th Vehicle image

Today, June 29th, the 500, 000th vehicle rolled off the Porsche’s Laipzig plant assembly line.

The celebrated sports car is a V8 white Cayenne that was transformed into a command vehicle for the Leipzig fire brigade. At the ceremony held today, Matthias Müller, the President and CEO of Porsche, offered the car keys to the Lord Mayor of the City.

“Half a million vehicles in only ten years is a remarkable result for a luxury car manufacturer like Porsche. Behind the success is a strong workforce now numbering 1,005 employees at our production facility in Saxony. I am impressed by the high degree of technical expertise of our Leipzig colleagues,” said Müller in his speech to high-ranking guests.

Lepzig which is in a continuous growth, prepares for the launch of a new model line. The company announced it will start production of the Macan model at the end of 2013. Until then Porsche will invest over 500 million euro to transform the facility into a fully-fledged plant with its own paint shop and assembly line. This change will add approximately 1,000 employees.
