The German based automaker Porsche is planning to develop a rival for the Ferrari 458 Italia which will be named the 961.
With Ferrari having the 458 Italia and McLaren bragging with its MP4-12C, Porsche is planning to develop a direct rival for the two supercars and a first step into this direction has already been taken by the German based automaker by confirming the production of the model. According to the company’s CEO Matthias Muller, the new Porsche model is currently under development and the model is expected to be named the 961, after the 959-based Group B sports car.
The all-new Porsche supercar will be slotted above the 911 GT2 but it will sit below the upcoming 918 Spyder. Rumors are saying that the future 961 will use some of the technology from its hybrid brother and it’s expected to get the 918’s 4.6 liter V8 engine under its hood, which should generate a total output of 570 horsepower (425 kW). This should be enough to allow the model to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just over three seconds, in the same “time zone” as the 458 Italia and the MP4-12C. Prices for the model are expected to be set around 250,000 GBP.
