Porsche China and Shanghai International Circuit recently held the groundbreaking ceremony for the Porsche Experience Center in Shanghai.
The center is to be built near the current Formula One track at the Shanghai International Circuit, becoming the first Porsche Experience Center in Asia, joining the other centers in Leipzig, Germany and Silverstone, England. Porsche enthusiasts and customers will have the possibility to drive the company’s models and to hone their skills on the center’s track.
The Porsche Experience Center is expected to be ready by late 2013 and it will be opened at the beginning of 2014. Porsche China will be the one operating and managing the center, in which the company will invest more than 135 million RMB. The purpose of the center is to help Porsche enthusiasts immerse in the world of driving the automaker’s luxury and racing cars.
The center will cover a 100,000-square-meter area, will have a three-story Training Center and will include a slalom module, a handling circuit and a low-friction circle. It has long been a goal for Porsche to offer its customers in China the possibility to experience the capabilities and performance of its cars.
“This new facility will join a selective group of other Experience Centers worldwide, built to reward our most loyal customers, and China was the next natural choice,” said Mr. Matthias Mueller, President and Chief Executive Officer of Porsche AG.
