Porsche, one of the sportiest automaker is celebrating. Almost 15 years to the month after production began, the Porsche Boxster, together with its sister model, the Cayman, exceeded the 300,000 mark for the number of vehicles built.
And to mark this special event, a Boxster Spyder with Platinum Silver metallic finish and Carrera red natural leather interior trim will roll off the Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen production line in June, destined for a customer in Germany.
After 15 years, the actual model range currently comprises the four open-topped variants, the Boxster, Boxster S, Boxster S Black Edition and Boxster Spyder. These are complemented by the Cayman, Cayman S, Cayman S Black Edition and Cayman R Coupes.
Talking about the engines and power, the Boxster S Black Edition is powered by an 3.4-liter flat-6 engine delivering 320 horsepower. With the optional PDK seven-speed double-clutch gearbox, the Boxster S gallops from 0-60 in 4.8 seconds, with a top speed of 170 mph.
On the same time, the Cayman S Black Edition is capable to hit 60 mph in 4.6 seconds. Compared to the Boxster S Black Edition, this one has 10 more hp ( 330 in total ), and costs about $67,500.
