The German based automaker Porsche is planning to develop a coupe based on the Panamera which is expected to make its way onto the market over the following years.
Rumors regarding a Panamera Coupe have been around since earlier this year but it seems that Porsche has big plans for its future models and a coupe based on the Panamera has been confirmed by an official within the company. The upcoming model to be based on the Panamera will get a front engine and it will mark the return of a front engine coupe since the 928, which has left the production line back in 1995.
Porsche may keep performance details a secret for the moment because the model doesn’t have the green light for production just yet and a decision regarding the new sports car won’t be made until the end of 2013, according to the company’s CEO, Matthias Mueller. If it will indeed catch the production line, the coupe version of the Porsche Panamera will get a rear-wheel drive architecture from the MMB platform owned by the Volkswagen Group and it won’t be the only model to ride on it, because it will also be shared with the next generations of the Lamborghini Gallardo and Audi R8. Additional details on the Panamera Coupe are limited for the moment.
