Porsche is planning to introduce a new entry-level sports car, which will sit below the current Boxster.
The Porsche Boxster is getting ready to receive a smaller brother, which will be significantly cheaper, lighter and less powerful. The announcement hasn’t been made official just yet, but according to a recent report published by the French automotive media, the model in question might be named the 718, just like the iconic racing car made between 1957 and 1962. In order to keep its price down, the upcoming Porsche 718 will adopt the same platform as the roadster but it will drop some weight off it.
According to our source, the new entry-level sports car which will be created by the German based automaker will be getting a four-cylinder inline 2.0 liter turbocharged engine under its hood. The unit will produce just over 286 HP. If this doesn’t seem like enough, Porsche is also planning a top of the line version, which will come with a 2.5 liter under its hood, producing 360 HP. The new Porsche 718 is believed to make its public debut sometimes in 2016, as a 2017 model. Additional details on the entry-level sports car remain unknown for the moment and will be announced, most likely, close to its debut.
