Porsche, the Stuttgart-based sports carmaker plans to build a full electric car, Germany’s Auto Motor und Sport magazine reported on Thursday.
According to the same source, Porsche, which is well known for the iconic 911 model will introduce the full electric sportscar somewhere in 2018 – 2019 and most probably the model will be the long-expected Pajun; a baby Panamera sedan that will rival in terms of size with the likes of Mercedes-Benz E Class, Audi A6, BMW 5 Series, Maserati Ghibli or even the Model S from Tesla.
The automaker declined to comment on the report.
However, Porsche’s CEO Matthias Mueller has recently said that he will not rule out that Porsche will build a pure electric car again, but first, the automaker needs to develop a new type of battery.
Last month Porsche’s Chief Development Officer Wolfgang Hatz, during an interview with the same German magazine was quoted as saying that for the moment the range of electric vehicles is insufficient.
The Pajun will be the fifth model in Porsche lineup; it is expected to use a shortened version of the Panamera’s MSB platform and will be substantially lighter than the Model S.
