Today, June 5th, Porsche celebrates its 500,000th Cayenne SUV to roll off the assembly line at the Leipzig plant.
The Cayenne SUV needed 11 years to get to the 500,000th milestone. The automaker encourages its customers to personally take their vehicles from the Leipzig plant, and 2,500 buyers do that annually. They also have the change to take test drivers on Porsche’s off road track, which received the FIA accreditation. The owner of the 500,000th Cayenne SUV V8 S Diesel and 382 hp is from Austria.
Porsche’s sales in May increased 13% to 15,020 vehicles and 19% from January to May to 67,261 vehicles. In the US the automaker sold 3,927 vehicles, up 40%, while in China sales increased 6% to 3,206 units. In Europe, as expected the company recorded a decrease of 2.6% to 5,034 units compared to 5,168 units sold in May 2012.
“In terms of customer deliveries to date, we have exceeded our expectations in the ongoing year. Given the continuing volatility of the market development, we nevertheless remain cautiously optimistic for the second half of the year,” said Bernhard Maier, Member of the Executive Board Sales and Marketing of Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG.
