Porsche spokesman Hans-Gerd Bode, during a recent interview with Bloomberg had mentioned about the firm’s plans to come up with a new model at the upcoming North American International Auto Show in Detroit that is scheduled to be held from January 10 to 23.
Around 600 hp as in the Ferrari 458 Italia
The new super car will be positioned over the 911 and could face the Ferrari 458 Italia, Lamborghini LP 570-4, and the Superleggera. To compete with such cars, the new supercar should have around 600 horsepower, and will cost about 200.000 euros. The power will come most probably from the six-cylinder turbo engine that is found inside the 911 GT2, or from the less efficient V10 that is found in the R8GT.
Can be hybrid an option for the new supercar? Keep in mind that in March 2010, Porsche unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show the 918 Spyder – the first plug-in hybrid car from Porsche.
The 3.4 litre V8 engine (500 hp/370 kW) is a development of the engine used in the RS Spyder Le Mans Prototype racing car. This is supplemented by three electric motors delivering an additional 218 horsepower (163 kW). The combination may work.
Together would give a competitive performance – at a much lower consumption compared to a pure combustion drive.
Anyway, we have to wait until Detroit to see what will come.
