Peugeot is currently teasing a production version of the extremely impressive 308 R Hybrid, see ask which will take the hot hatches to a whole new era.
Peugeot may have been late in introducing the 308 GTi, its rival for the Volkswagen Golf GTI, the Renaultsport Megane, the Ford Focus ST and so on but that doesn’t mean that the French based company isn’t ready to take things to a whole new level. Do you remember the 308 R Hybrid? Well, whatever your answer may be, you should know that the carmaker is getting ready to introduce a production version of it.
Yes, you read that pretty accurately. We are talking about a hot hatch with a hybrid powertrain which will have to cope with a whooping 500 HP (368 kW) and 730 Nm (539 lb-ft) of torque. It will have no direct rival at this time because it is significantly more powerful than the Mercedes-Benz A45 AMG, the BMW M135i or the Audi RS3 Sportback. It will even be more powerful than the Volkswagen Golf R 400 and it is expected to get a lot of carbon fiber components, new brakes, a lowered suspension system and new wheels and tires. This will be translated into a whopping starting price which will put it, along with its power, in a league of its own. It will need just 4.0 seconds in order to reach 100 km/h (62 mph) and it will go up to an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph). It remains to be seen whether AWD will be adopted but most likely the answer to this question will be “yes”.
