Recently PSA Peugeot Citroen denied the rumors that GM’s Opel unit plans to manufacture the Citroen DS5 and the mid-sized Peugeot 508 models in Germany.
The Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung cited an Opel internal document according to which the automaker plans to begin manufacturing of two variants of the DS5 at the Ruesselsheim facility in 2015 and followed in 2016 by the 508.
“All we can say at this time is that nothing has been concluded since the talks are ongoing, ” said a PSA spokeswoman. “The report [that Opel will make the 508 and DS5 in Germany] is purely speculative.”
Currently the working committees are in discussions about how Opel and PSA will share resources. The talks are expected to conclude before the end of this year. Earlier this year GM purchased 7% stake in PSA, forming an alliance with the automaker to share purchasing, logistic and engineering resources.
But any intention of PSA to switch production from France to Germany will meet opposition from the French government, which has already publicly criticized the company for planning to lay off 8,000 employees in the country and to close a facility at Aulnay-sous-Bois, near Paris.
