PSA Peugeot Citroen has recently unveiled the EMP2 platform at the Innovation Day celebration, which will underpin new models signed by both carmakers.
If you’re thinking on buying a Peugeot or Citroen car in the nearby future than pay attention to the detail here because chances are that it will be based on the brand new EMP2 platform. According to the French based companies, theEMP2 (Efficient Modular Platform 2) will underpin future vehicles in the C and in the D segments and it’s coming with high-strength steel, aluminum and composites. The new platform is promising to increase the driving pleasure and improve the fuel efficiency.
According to the PSA alliance, the very first models to be underpinned by the new EMP2 platform will be the replacements for the new C4 Picasso and the Peugeot 308. The models should be at least 70 kg lighter than the outgoing versions and this will be translated into a 22 reduction in CO2 emissions and in an improved fuel efficiency. The new EMP2 platform will also be capable of accommodating technologies such as the electric power steering or the engine start / stop. The EMP2 will go into production later on this year.
