American formula one TV anchor Bob Varsha suspects the news about Kimi Raikkonen entering NASCAR might be a joke.
“Personally I think it’s an April Fool’s joke,” the Speed TV personality told the Milwaukee-Wisconsin Journal Sentinel.
“Especially when you read those quotes that were attributed to Kimi about how he loves the American spirit of racing, that to me doesn’t sound like anything that would come out of Kimi Raikkonen’s mouth.
Kimi Raikkonen recently told Finnish newspaper Turun Sanomat: “I’m really looking forward to get there to familiarise to the world of NASCAR. I know, it’s a very tough and open, top racing series.
“Obviously, it will be very challenging and great fun for me.”
However, NASCAR confirmed that the Finnish driver, who is currently competing in the World Rally Championship (WRC), has been approved to participate in the Camping World Truck Series race at Charlotte Motor Speedway in North Carolina on May 20.
As you know Kimi has already signed up for eight rounds of this year’s World Rally Championship in which he drives a Citroen DS3 WRC of the junior team. He’s got a bunch of sponsors there who definitely want him to accomplish something for them!
Raikkonen spent nine years in Formula One, with one season at Sauber, five at McLaren and then three at Ferrari. He has 18 career Formula One victories.
