The German based automaker Mercedes-Benz has announced a recall for the 2011 G550 and G55 AMG because of a problem with the front passenger airbag which might hurt the front seat occupant.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 189 units of the 2011 Mercedes-Benz G550 and G55 AMG will be affected by this recall and their owners will have to take a trip back to the dealers in order to get the issue solved. The NHTSA is saying that the loose molding strip which is covering the front passenger airbag might become a projectile if the airbag is being deployed.
“During the front passenger airbag deployment, parts of the molding strip could potentially become loose and become a projectile in the passenger compartment,” said NHTSA in its recalls summary of the problem. “In the event of the passenger airbag deployment, if the molding strip becomes loose, there is an increased risk of personal injury.”
The affected 2011 Mercedes-Benz G550 and G55 AMG have been produced between the 20th of September 2010 and the 27th of April 2011. The recall will begin sometimes next month and the owners will be announced shortly. Meanwhile, if you own such a vehicle and you live in the U.S you can contact Mercees-Benz at 1-800-367-6372.
