The German based automaker Mercedes-Benz has recently announced a recall for the 2012-2013 M-Class SUVs because of a problem with the floor mats which could stuck the gas pedal.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, about 8, 675 units of the 2012-2013 Mercedes-Benz M-Class will be affected by this recall and the models include the ML350, the ML550 and the ML63 which are equipped with the all-season rubber accessory floor mats. The NHTSA says that the floor mats might stuck the gas pedal and this won’t retract even when the driver lifts his/her foot from the gas pedal, increasing the risk of a crash and injury.
Mercedes-Benz will replace the front accessory floor mats with a modified version which can’t interfere with the gas pedal but until then, owners of the above mentioned models are advised to b aware of the problem. The floor mats will be replaced free of charge by the company’s dealers. The safety recall will begin in September 2012. Mercedes-Benz didn’t say anything about possible reports received from owners of the new ML related to this issue about crashes or injuries. Owners can contact the carmaker at 1-800-367-6372 or the NHTSA at 1-888-327-4236.
