The German based automaker Audi has recently announced a recall for the 2012 Q5 mid-size crossovers because of a problem with the vehicles’ sunroof.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 13,172 units of the 2012 Audi Q5 will be affected by this recall and their owners will have to drive them back to the dealers which will inspect the sunroof’s glass, which has the possibility to break.
“Some vehicles may be equipped with a front sunroof glass panel that is susceptible to breakage in extremely cold weather/temperature conditions. Should the sunroof’s glass break while the vehicle is in use, the falling glass could cut and injure the driver or passengers. It could also distract the driver, increasing the risk of a crash”, as the NHTSA is saying in its recall summary of the problem.
Volkswagen Group of America says that the affected Q5 crossovers have been manufactured between the 21st of June, 2011 and the 9th of December, 2011. The company’s dealers will replace the front sunroof glass panel and the recall is expected to begin on the 7th of August. Owners of the above mentioned model will be announced this month. Audi isn’t aware of any accident or injury caused by this problem. Owners of the 2012 Audi Q5 can contact VW/Audi at 800-822-8987.
