The German based automaker BMW and its sub-brand Rolls-Royce have recently announced a recall for the 5-Series, 5-Series GT, 6-Series, 7-Series, X5, X6 and Ghost because of a problem with the electric auxiliary water pump.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, owners of the 2011 BMW 5-Series, 2011 BMW 5-Series Gran Turismo, 2012 BMW 6-Series, 2012 BMW 7-Series, 2012 BMW X5, 2012 BMW X6 and 2010-201 Rolls-Royce Ghost will have to take a trip back to the dealers because of the electric auxiliary water pumps which can make a circuit board overheat. The NHTSA is also saying that in a worst-case scenario, the board can ignite and a fire in the engine compartment is inevitable.
Owners of the above mentioned vehicles will be notified soon by BMW and Rolls-Royce and the recall is expected to begin this month. The local dealers will inspect the models and replace the auxiliary water pumps free of charge. The problem with the electric auxiliary water pump may have been fixed if your vehicle has been previously recalled, but we still encourage you to contact the car manufacturer. You can call BMW at 800-525-7417, Rolls-Royce at 877-877-3735 and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration at 888-327-4236.
