The North American based automotive giant General Motors has recently announced a recall for the Buick Verano, Chevy Cruze and Sonic models because of a problem with the front airbags.
Bad news for owners of GM made vehicles these days and after the company has announced a recall for the 2013 Cadillac XTS, the Buick Verano, the Chevrolet Cruze and the Chevrolet Sonic will have to be taken back to the dealerships because of a problem with the front airbag, which may not deploy in case of a crash.
“The driver side frontal airbag has a shorting bar which may intermittently contact the airbag terminals. If the bar and terminals are contacting each other at the time of a crash necessitating deployment of the driver’s frontal airbag, that airbag will not deploy, increasing the driver’s risk of injury”, as the NHTSA is saying in its summary of the problem.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, a total of 2,949 units of the 2012 Buick Verano, Chevrolet Cruze and Chevrolet Sonic will be affected by this recall. The company’s dealerships will replace the steering wheel airbag coil free of charge. No exact date has been set yet for the recall but until owners will be notified by GM, they can contact the automaker at 1-866-694-6546.
