The North American based automotive giant General Motors has recently announced a recall for the Chevrolet Malibu, the Saturn Aura and the Pontiac G6 vehicles because of a problem with the transmission.
According to the car manufacturer, the recall affects 40,029 units of the Chevrolet Malibu, Saturn Aura and Pontiac G6 vehicles in Canada and owners of the above mentioned models will have to take a trip back to the dealers because of a transmission flaw. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has announced that the recall has been expanded to the United States too, where it affects a total of 426,240 vehicles.
The NHTSA says that the affected models are equipped with automatic transmissions and the shift cable locking tabs can fracture. If this will happen, the shift lever will show an incorrect gear than what the car is actually in. This problem can lead to an accident and even to an injury. Dealers will replace the cable and/or cable clips free of charge. The affected Pontiac G6 and Chevrolet Malibu have been produced between 2008 and 2010 and the Saturn Auras between 2007 and 2010. The recall is expected to begin soon. Owners of the above mentioned models are encouraged to contact General Motors at 1-800-521-7300.
