The North American based automotive giant General Motors has recently announced a recall for the Chevrolet Malibu, Buick LaCrosse and Buick Regal, with the eAssist.
According to the car manufacturer, a total of 38,197 units of the Chevrolet Malibu Eco, Buick LaCrosse and Buick Regal sedans, made in 2012 and in 2013, equipped with the eAssist, will be affected by this recall and their owners will have to take them back to the dealers because of a potential malfunction with the generator control module.
“Some of these vehicles may have a condition in which the generator control module may not function properly. This could cause a gradual loss of battery charge and the illumination of a malfunction indicator light. If these warnings are ignored, the engine may stall. In addition, there may be a burning or melting odor, smoke, and, in rare instances, a fire in the trunk”, as the automaker is saying in its official press release.
GM isn’t aware of any accidents or injuries related to this defect but there has been one trunk fire documented. The recall is expected to begin this month (May). Dealers and owners will be notified but if you own one of the vehicles mentioned above, you should probably contact GM or the NHTSA.
