Ford has issued a recall for several escape models because of a problem with the leaking of an engine compartment fuel line, which may lead to a fire.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, a total of 9,469 units of the Ford Escape will be affected by this recall. The models in question have been produced between the 5th of October, 2011, and the 11th of July, 2012, and they are equipped with the 1.6 liter engine.
“In some cases, the engine compartment fuel line may have been installed incorrectly when repaired under the prior recall. The misinstalled fuel line could chafe and eventually leak fuel. A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source may result in a fire”, as the NHTSA is saying in its press release.
Owners of the affected Ford Escape vehicles will be notified by the carmaker soon and the company’s dealers will inspect the models and make the necessary adjustments / replacements free of charge. The recall is expected to begin on the 23rd of January, 2014. For more details on the subject, owners of the affected Ford Escape vehicles can contact the carmaker at 1-866-436-7332 or the NHTA at 1-888-327-4236.
