Ford and Mazda have recently announced two separate recalls for the Escape and Tribute SUVs because of problems with the cruise control cable.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, owners of the 2001-2004 Ford Escape and of the 2001-2006 and 2008 Mazda Tribute SUVs will have to take a trip back to the dealership because of a problem with the cruise control cable. The NHTSA says that because of a design flaw, the throttle can get stuck even if the cruise control hasn’t been turned on by the driver.
“Inadequate clearance between the vehicle’s engine cover and the speed control cable connector could result in a stuck throttle when the accelerator pedal is fully or almost fully depressed”, as the NHTSA is saying in its recalls summary of the problem.
The feds are announcing that approximately 660,000 units of the above mentioned models will be affected by this recall in the United States alone. The recall is expected to begin soon and the two car manufacturer will begin notifying owners of the Ford Escape and Mazda Tribute. The problem will be solved free of charge. Owners of the two SUV models are advised to contact Ford at 866-436-7332 and Mazda at 800-222-5500.
