The North American based automaker Ford has recently announced a recall for the Fiesta models because of a problem with the side curtain airbags.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 154,604 units of the Ford Fiesta models, produced between the 3rd of November 2009 and the 21st of September 2012, will be affected by this recall and their owners will have to take a trip back to the dealers. The NHTSA says that in the affected models, the side curtain airbags might not deploy in case of an impact, increasing the risk of injury.
“The vehicles fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 208, ‘Occupant Crash Protection’. The passenger side curtain air bag will not deploy in the event of a side impact collision when the front passenger seat is empty”, as the NHTSA is saying in its recalls summary of the problem.
The company’s dealers will be notified and owners will be informed shortly with letters about this immediate problem. The dealers will reprogram the software free of charge. The recall is expected to begin sometimes this month. Meanwhile, owners are being advised to contact Ford at 1-866-436-7332 or the NHTSA at 1-800-424-9153.
