The North American based automaker Ford has recently announced a recall for the new Fusion generation and for the Escape models because of a potential fire risk.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, a total of 89,153 units of the two models will have to be taken back to the dealers by their owners out of which 15,833 are 2013 Fusion vehicles and 73,320 are the 2013 Ford Escapes. All units of the above mentioned models are equipped with the 1.6 liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engines.
“We have identified an issue and are taking actions in the best interest of our customers. It is important that affected customers not ignore this recall and contact their dealer as soon as possible. While we recognize the inconvenience recalls cause our customers, we are taking these actions on their behalf to help ensure their safety”, said the Ford Automotive Safety Office director, Steve Kenner.
The engines in the above mentioned models can overheat and, in some instances, fires can start in the engine compartment. The Fusion and Escape vehicles equipped with the 2.0 liter turbo and with the 2.5 liter naturally aspirated units will not be affected by this recall and the Fusion Hybrid will also not be affected. The recall is expected to begin soon but meanwhile, owners of the two models are being advised to contact 866-436-7332 for assistance in the U.S. (888-222-7814 in Canada).
