Recall roundup: Lotus Elise and Exige image

The North American division of Lotus has recently announced a recall which will affect all the Elise and Exige models made between 2005 and 2006 because of an oil leak issue which can lead to fires or even crashes. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the Lotus Elise and Exige models made between June 1, 2004 and November 30, 2006, will be affected by the recall.

The NHTSA says that the vehicles’ oil cooler lines may become detached from their fittings and if this happens, oil can spray in the engine compartment, leading to an increased risk of a fire or even a crash. There is also some danger for other participants in traffic because the oil can also spray on the road.

According to Lotus Cars USA Inc., the automaker had to recall its vehicles after the NHTSA had begun an investigation into complaints from owners of the above mentioned vehicles. Reports included some problems with oil leaks and in one case an owner also reported a fire.

The NHTSA and Lotus Cars USA Inc. didn’t announce when owners of the Elise and Exige will be notified but for any questions regarding the problem you can contact Lotus at 800-245-6887.
