The German based automaker Mercedes-Benz has recently announced a recall for the CLS550 and the CLS550 4Matic cars, because of a problem with the hood, which might open while driving.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, a total of 23 units of the 2012 Mercedes-Benz CLS550 and the CLS550 4Matic models will be affected by this recall and their owners will have to take a trip back to the dealers because of a problem with the hood which might open while driving. The NHTSA says that if ignored, this problem may lead to a crash and a potential injury.
“The bolts that hold the hood’s secondary latch striker may have been insufficiently tightened. The reduced torque of the striker bolts might lead to a loosening of the bolts. If two of the four bolts securing the striker became loose, the secondary hood latch function would become ineffective”, as the NHTSA says in its summary of the recall.
The affected Mercedes-Benz CLS vehicles have been produced between the 1st of December, 2011, and the 13th of December, 2011. The company’s dealers will retighten the bolts. The recall should begin next month. Meanwhile, owners of the above mentioned models are being advised to contact Mercedes-Benz at 1-800-367-6372.
