The German based automaker Mercedes-Benz has recently announced a recall for the E350 and E550 Coupe because of a problem with the side curtain airbag.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 499 units of the 2012 Mercedes-Benz E350 and E550 Coupe will be affected in the United States by this recall and owners of these two models will have to take their vehicles back to the dealers because of a problem with the side curtain airbag, which may not deploy as intended in case of an impact, increasing the risk of injury.
“Improper stitching of the right side window curtain airbag may cause it to not deploy as intended in the affected vehicles. In the event of an accident necessitating the deployment of the right window curtain airbag, the improper stitching may cause it to deflate more quickly than intended, reducing the protection it may provide, resulting in an increased risk of injury to vehicle occupants”, as the NHTSA says in its recalls summary of the problem.
The 2012 Mercedes-Benz E350 and E550 affected by this recall have been produced between the 2nd of April 2012 and the 29th of June 2012 and the problem has been discovered internally. The company’s dealerships will replace the side curtain airbag for free and the recall is expected to begin next month (November, 2012). Meanwhile, owners can contact Mercedes-Benz at 1-800-367-6372.
