Nissan has issued a recall for the GT-R sports car and for several Infiniti crossovers because of some problems with the steering.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, there are a total of 16,973 vehicles affected by this problem and their owners will have to schedule an appointment with a dealer because of some issues with the steering. The NHTSA says because of the steering column’s outer tube may not be round, the bearing retainer might fracture and if this happens the risk of a crash will be increased.
“The steering column outer tube may not be round, resulting in extra stress being applied to the upper steering bearing. This stress may cause the bearing retainer to fracture, creating extra play in the steering wheel or a possible loss of steering”, says the NHTSA in its recalls summary of the problem.
The affected vehicles are the 2009 Nissan GT-R, produced between the 14th of March, 2007, and the 25th of April, 2008, the 2008 Infiniti EX35 produced between June 29, 2007, to April 25, 2008, and the 2009 Infiniti FX35 and FX45, put together between the 31st of October, 2007, and the 16th of April, 2008.Pwners of these models will be notified by Nissan and the company’s dealers will be replacing the steering column assembly free of charge.
