The German based automaker Volkswagen ahs recently announced a recall for its urban vehicles, the Up!, the Skoda Citigo and the Seat Mii, because of a problem with the airbag control unit.
According to the car manufacturer, owners of some Volkswagen Up!, Skoda Citigo and Seat Mii vehicles will have to take a trip back to the dealers because of a problem with the airbag control unit. The Volkswagen Group says that this is a global recall which will affect cars produced between January 2013 and March 2013. The carmaker has spotted a problem with the vehicles’ airbag control units, which have been configured incorrectly.
If this problem is ignored, the airbags might trigger with a delay in case of an accident and this will increase the risk of injury. The problem isn’t isolated to the airbags and it has also been spotted in the seatbelt pretensioners, which could fail to provide the necessary pretension as well. The company’s dealers will update the software of the control unit and this will solve the problem. The fix will take approximately 30 minutes. A total of 30,296 units of the Up! will be affected, along with 8,437 units of the Citigo and 4,193 units of the Mii.
