Renault 5 Turbo sold for 72,000 USD image

An original example of the Renault 5 Turbo has managed to find a new owner who has paid no less than 72,000 USD in order to get his hands on it.

The Renault 5 Turbo is definitely a classic car appreciated by most collectors thanks to its impressive performance and despite having some serious competition in the front-wheel drive segment for hot hatches, the vehicle has managed to stand out of the crowd. The model in question has a mid-engine and rear-wheel drive layout and it was an exotic ride in its time. It has been created as a homologation special for rally racing and this has made it even cooler.

The Clio V6 may be paying its tribute to the original Renault 5 Turbo but the classic vehicle remains sacred in the eyes of connoisseurs and petrol heads. This particular model has managed to fetch an amazing 72,000 USD on eBay and even if this may sound like too much, keep in mind that only 3,576 examples have been produced and none of those has been officially imported to the United States. The vehicle is in an original state and it has travelled for just 63,000 miles (101,700 km). It has a 1.4 liter turbocharged four-cylinder inline engine under its hood, which is capable of putting down a total of 185 HP. The car is weighing only 970 kg and for the early ‘80s this was definitely one of the fastest models on the road. Check it out in the photo gallery posted below.
