The official public introduction for the latest generation of the hot hatchback will afterwards take place during the Frankfurt Motor Show in September.
The rumor mill has assessed correct – the French automaker is indeed showcasing for the first time its new Megane R.S. during the Monaco Grand Prix, as the all-new for 2018 model year hot hatchback will make an appearance during the upcoming Monaco Grand Prix weekend. It will even lap the famous course on May 26 with Renault Sport Racing Formula 1 driver Nico Hülkenberg at the helm. The manufacturer will also mark the occasion with a special yellow and black livery to honor the automaker’s ongoing racing addiction. We still don’t know if the presentation will be accompanied with official details about the car, as Renault adds the official unwrapping of the next-generation Megane R.S. will actually have to wait for the September Frankfurt Motor Show.
There are numerous rumors swirling around the Megane RS – even some pointing towards an AWD system that would allow it to go against the Focus RS, though most specialists believe the French hot hatch will remain a front wheel drive affair – one that will later on challenge the Civic Type R for the lap record in the segment on the Nurburgring Nordschleife. “The Mégane R.S. embodies the passion of every man and woman working for Renault Sport,” comments Renault Sport Cars Managing Director Patrice Ratti. “It is the ultimate expression of the savoir-faire we have accumulated through our countless successes in motorsport. Thanks to its extreme cornering efficiency, the Mégane R.S. is extraordinarily satisfying to drive at even the most challenging venues, such as the Nürburgring’s Nordschleife in Germany.”
