Renault Megane SUV, based on the Qashqai, coming in 2015 image

Renault is planning to develop an SUV, which will be based on the Nissan Qashqai, and will hit the market sometimes in 2015 as a midsize vehicle.

Even if there is no official word on this subject from the French based automaker for the moment, the guys at autoexpress.co.uk are saying that Renault is planning to develop a Qashqai-based SUV, which will have a lot of things in common too with the future Megane hatchback. Our source is also saying that the model, which will hit the market in 2015, will have key mechanical elements common and shared with the Nissan Qashqai, but it will be easily recognizable as a Renault vehicle.

The upcoming Renault SUV will get the front fascia inspired by the DeZir concept car and looks of the ZOE electric hatchback too, as well as some elements from the recently presented Alpine A110-50 concept car, along with LED daytime running lights and 18-inch alloy wheels. The Renault Megane SUV will be similar in size to the Nissan Qashqai and it will be 4.5 meters long, accommodating five people. Renault’s plan is to go against non-hybrid versions of the Peugeot 3008 with the upcoming SUV, which will get engines like the 1.2 liter turbo with 113 BHP and 190 Nm of torque, mated to dual-clutch automatic transmission and returning 50 mpg. Prices for the Megane SUV are expected to start at just under GBP16,000.
