The French based automaker Renault is planning to develop a direct rival for the Tata Nano, which will be launch in India in 2014 or 2015.
Renault has announced in late 2011 that it will move up market with its vehicles in order to compete with Volkswagen and the gap will be filled by Dacia, which it will continue to develop cheap vehicles. But between rebranding and reviving the Alpine brand, the car manufacturer has thought that a new market segment in Asia might be the missing key in increasing sales, so a Tata Nano rival will be developed, which will use an 800cc engine and cheap parts in order to keep the production costs low.
Even if the car manufacturer didn’t announce anything official on this subject for the moment, rumors are saying that the new Renault rival for the Tata Nano in India is expected to hit the market sometimes in 2014 or 2015. That’s about all the info we’ve got on the subject, but as a quick reminder, the 2012 Tata Nano, which was revealed last year in November, is being offered on the local market in three trim levels and it’s powered by a 624cc engine, producing 38 HP. The top of the line LX is getting AC with heating, a 12V socket, cup holder, front power windows, central locking, body colored bumpers, electronic trip meters, tip-tap mirrors, rear spoiler, fog lamps and full wheel covers.
