The next model in the Land Rover range to gain an all-new generation is the Discovery – the proper one, not the Sport version – and we have the digital artist interpretations of things that may be.
The Land Rover Discovery is going to be completely refreshed sometimes this year, and this possible version depicts a sleek and stylish crossover that has nothing to do with the manly, boxy design of the current model. Instead, the softer touches have been snatched from the Discovery Sport version – we like the final product but we’re still hoping land Rover will differentiate better the two models now sharing the same nameplate. Such important changes might not bode well with fans of the current generation, but at least the rugged appearance is still there thanks to the use of lots of plastic body cladding and a massive front skid plate.
There are also front fender vents and an upward beltline and character line. The iconic “stepped roof” is still present while the tailgate-mounted spoiler contributes to the more dynamic appearance. Land Rover has been very secretive about its next generation Discovery but reports call for an intensive use of aluminum to shed weight. Engine options are also unknown but at this point the assortment of powertrains is expected to come from the Discovery Sport and also from above courtesy of the Range Rover lineup. Reports are also talking about a modified 3.0-liter SDV6 diesel engine and even a hybrid version being in the works.
