The BMW 7 Series flagship has just changed generations but that doesn’t mean professional tuners such as Alpina are waiting around – the 2017 B7 is allegedly already gearing up for a March debut during the Geneva Motor Show.
Actually Alpina has already teased their flagship luxury sedan version earlier this month so we’re lending this rumor some credibility – as Alpina has said the B7 is “coming soon.” And since the model has also been caught testing by the praying eye of the spy cameras, the unofficial information that the model is going to have its official worldwide public introduction at the Swiss even in early March should be taken with a lesser dose of salt that usual. The report goes on to say the Alpina B7 would use the 4.4-liter V8 engine of the 750i variant and massage it to perform at about 600 horsepower (441 kW) and 590 pound-feet (800 Nm) of torque. The preceding B7 comes to the table with 540 hp (397 kW) and 538 lb-ft (729 Nm), using the well known 8-speed automatic transmission to reach 62 mph (100 km/h) in 4.3 seconds before topping out at 194 mph (312 km/h). This means the 2017 B7 should level the sprint field at four seconds thanks to the added oomph.
The model will also allegedly pack either rear wheel drive or the AWD system and customers can order both the short and long wheelbase models. The Buchloe-based tuning specialist is also expected to bring to the table its usual array of discrete design tweaks.
