The Ingolstadt-based automaker is in full swing developing the fourth generation of the flagship A8 model, and a new report off the mill claims it will also receive a completely electric mod.
While the BMW 7 Series is brand new and Mercedes is expected to present the facelift to the S Class any day, the 2018 Audi A8 will not be officially arriving until late next year, though fans should be happy it will feature a design inspired by the latest raft of Prologue concepts. The technical platform underpinning the model is the MLB Evo, already found inside a raft of models such as the Audi Q7 and A4 or the Bentley Bentayga. We already know the company is going to present the production Audi e-tron immediately after the A8 – as the company’s first fully electric model.
It’s going to be a battery-operated sport utility vehicle, and it’s also supposedly using the same MLB Evo architecture. And Audi has already confirmed it will be upgrading its electric range with a hatchback after the crossover, and even a luxurious limousine. The rumor mill is undecided on this one – claiming it will be the A9. But there are others thinking this will actually be a derivative of the A8 range – especially if the e-tron SUV and the A8 do share the MLB Evo platform, making it feasible from a technical standpoint.
