Thanks to one of those very hush hush private previews that actually everyone finds out about, many of the juicy technical details of the all-new M5 high performance sedan have been spilled.
The all-new M5 (F90) is certainly keeping the headlines these past few weeks – both from official and unofficial sources – and while BMW organized a preview event this week at a warehouse in Belgium to showcase to select few in a so-called “Discovery Room” the M5, we weren’t supposed to know anything about it. And while the automaker knows the trick of using a VIN decoder to find out all the specs – it blocked the vehicle identification number located on the bottom of the windscreen – participants still snatched some juicy details. They were allowed to pop the hood and somebody actually memorized the VIN (they weren’t allowed to take any pictures) that’s located inside the engine bay and then used a BMW decoder.
So here it goes – the biturbo 4.4.-liter V8 engine is right where it’s supposed to be, at 600 horsepower (441 kilowatts) and 516 pound-feet (700 Newton-meters) of torque, sending all the oomph to the officially exposed AWD system with RWD mode. And according to a BMW M official, the 0-62 mph (0-100 kph) sprint will be finished in less than three and a half seconds. At the preview, the M5 wore a Marina Bay Blue Metallic paint with Merino/Silverstone leather interior, 20-inch two-tone alloy wheels, yellow carbon ceramic brakes and interesting details such as a carbon fiber double bubble roof.
