The latest rumor in the mill concerning the Alfa Romeo Giulia has to do with the engine choices in store for the sedan that should signal the renaissance of the once iconic Italian sporty brand.
While Fiat Chrysler Automobiles apparently has once more ran into trouble with the (countless) restart of the bleeding premium brand, a screenshot shows the engine option for the most affordable 2016 Alfa Romeo Giulia, coming nicely fitted with the 2.2 JTDM diesel engine that has 150 PS. The automaker has presented the luxury sedan in its most glorious state – the QV – that has no less than 510 PS under the hood and now we have more insights on the engine choice that will be delivered at home in Italy when the model finally makes its sales debut.
First off is the 150 PS 2.2 JTDM turbo diesel, mated to a six speed manual transmission and with rear-wheel drive. Then you can have the same engine with an 8-speed automatic and delivering 180 or 210 horsepower – the latter option also coming with all-wheel drive. Petrol choices have to do with the 2.0 GME T4 (Global Medium Engine family turbo) that can deliver 200, 250 and 280 PS – mated only to the automatic and in the latter version also featuring optional AWD. Then there’s the astonishing 2.9 twin-turbo V6 with 490 or 510 PS and three gearbox options – six-speed manual, 7-speed DCT, and the 8-speed automatic – all of them with RWD. Two engine options have been left out so far: the turbo diesel with 340 PS and the 2-liter turbo-4 with 330 PS (243 kW), apparently because they will appear at a later date.
