According to Chief Creative Officer Marek Reichman, the possibility for the AM-RB 001 to become a flagship project that will foreshadow derivatives is now becoming a certainty.
The executive said “Everything we do in Special Projects is in part a foretelling of something to come. We never do something and then forget it,” so there’s a big chance the speculation about an upcoming mid-engined supercar was not just another rumor thrown on the mill. He was of course unwilling to detail more on the subject but delivered hints that Red Bull’s joint project with Aston is a “precursor of the idea of a mid-engined vehicle being part of the lineup”. The company’s Second Century plan likely included the idea, but don’t get your hopes up just yet because the suggestion is the model is years away, coming only after some years have passed since the turn of the decade.
Aside from discussing the mid-engine supercar, Reichman also delivered a confirmation of the AM-RB 001using an all-new V12 engine that has been seriously downsized from the biturbo 5.2-liter V12 that is used inside the DB11. The creative officer said this will be a pure thoroughbred and it would even be able to spool up to 11,000 revolutions per minute. He added the 001 included the company’s most precious obsessions – aerodynamics, drag, and weight. He also added the partnership with Red Bull was a perfect 50 percent marriage of “Aston Martin design with Red Bull tech.”
