A new report is rekindling the fan affection for the idea of BMW introducing in the near future a more intense version of the great M2 pocket rocket – the fabled M2 GTS.
The hardcore M2 GTS is apparently getting an engine update that will take it above the 400 horsepower threshold, given this rumor flying off the mill actually pans out. Allegedly called by the fan base the M2 GTS or M2 CSL, the version should already be in development at the Bavarian headquarters and will make do with carbon-fiber body panels, a new aerodynamic kit and an engine upgrade. The aerodynamic pack should consist of a big fixed rear wing, while the reworked 3.0-liter six-cylinder turbocharged mill fitted inside the M2 should be massaged to develop about 408 horsepower (300 kilowatts). There’s no official word from the automaker just yet, but the media report states the top brass have already given the green light to the sports coupe.
Since it should come with more power, BMW could also be thinking of better stopping power – so the optional ceramic brakes are expected to make an appearance with the high-performance model – also getting with a track-focused adjustable suspension. Of course, a lower stance and bigger, wider wheels are almost a given in this case. Interestingly enough, the report states the upgraded M2 could go down the M4 GTS route, ditching the rear seats. With such a great interest in the regular M2 we can imagine BMW is pretty much considering this GTS / CSL model as an exclusive series – boasting a mind-bending price tag in the process.
