The rumor mill is again doing its thing with the reported comeback of the BMW M8 flagship – and we should get it in AWD with V8 mode, complete with Coupe, Cabrio and Gran body styles.
It appears that “several sources” have found out that BMW decided to introduce an entire family of M8 models, the vehicle being based on the next generation 6 Series or the equally often rumored 8 Series. The waters look murky at BMW at this point because there are numerous rumors about the fate of the 6 Series for example – including the introduction of the upcoming next generation 5 Series GT into the 6 Series. And as such, getting an 8 Series wouldn’t make much sense because we still have the 6 Series Coupe and Convertible to account for as a new generation.
Anyways, once things are straightened out and the flagship sporty series comes out, it will be seconded by an entire roster of M performance versions. The first to appear will naturally be a coupe, aka M8 Coupe arriving in 2019, followed by the M8 Convertible and M8 Gran Coupe in 2020. Of course, their breathing souls will be the newest iteration of the company’s 4.4-liter V8 biturbo engine – expected to surpass the 600 horsepower (447 kilowatts) threshold and with all power sent to all four wheels.
