While General Motors is slowly but firmly retreating from Europe, it appears there’s one Last Mohican soldiering on the Old Continent – the luxury brand Cadillac.
The company is even pushing in Europe with the confirmation that it will start selling from next year its upcoming all new crossover model. The American automaker has revealed it will introduce the new XT4 in Europe sometimes next year, slotting below the top selling XT5. The model had been labeled as XT3 until a few days ago, but Cadillac president Johan de Nysschen himself set the record straight during the Geneva Motor Show when he revealed “a new compact crossover called XT4 will debut in 2018 in the US and subsequently in Europe.”
The Cadillac brand is not over in the segment though – the SUV strategy will include the launch of an even smaller CUV, and a larger model, allegedly nicknamed XT7 – placed between the XT5 and the Escalade. The new XT4 will come with “an entirely new series of efficient and powerful engines,” says de Nysschen, and represent the spearhead of the offensive – “a new Cadillac will be brought to market every six months, a total of five carlines in the space of two years.”
