Now that a new generation of the C3 subcompact has eschewed the effeminate styling in favor of quirky unisex inspiration from the C4 Cactus, a new report is indicating the VTS hot versions are coming back.
Back in the day when hot hatches were more about handling and being very accessible people dared to go on a limb and commission models such as the Mini Cooper, Ford Fiesta ST or the Citroen C2 VTS. The latter was actually the cheapest of them all, but then the hot hatch segment moved on towards more power, higher prices and the French brand had a misfire with the uninteresting C4 VTS. It now appears that after reestablishing its core values, the French automaker is able to think a bit of its fan base – which has always asked for the return of the VTS.
It appears the apparition of the new generation C3 and the positive feedback it’s getting has allowed the executives to dwell on the possibility of delivering a lower, faster version. The rumor should be taken with a pinch of salt though as no decision has been made yet. In the report it seems the brand’s VTS cookout has to do with the DS Automobiles being separate and having to show off all the performance credentials, with Citroen also wanting to tie in hotter models to the return to WRC that should take place next year.
