We discarded it as vaporware back when the exotic manufacturer presented the polarizing and bonkers Devel Sixteen – it was back in 2013 when the hypercar was presented as a static mockup at the Dubai Motor Show.
It’s now reportedly coming back to this year’s event, along with its quad-turbocharged V16 engine that was supposed to lend a hand in reaching a maximum speed of more than 300 miles per hour (482 kilometers per hour). It seems now the vaporware might not be that at all, because reports are suggesting the Dubai Motor Show return is for a working prototype – the Devel Sixteen might be seen on November 14. It’s also going to be of the running, driving variety, with the working quad-turbocharged V16 engine under the hood, and expected to develop somewhere near 5,000 hp (3,728-kW).
The company has even announced recently it’s going to work in cooperation with Italian manufacturing firm Manifattura Automobili Torino for further development of their new hypercar. The shop has experience in delivering such bonkers automobiles – involved with Jim Glickenhaus’s SCG 003 supercar, and the new Apollo Intensa Emozione. According to the new brand, the Sixteen will be “an easy daily driver with all the refinements expected in this kind of vehicle,” but with “the power of ten supercars,” or to be more precise, of around five hypercars. The 12.3-liter quad-turbo engine will be assembled by Steve Morris Engines of Michigan, and the video presents it on the dyno where it maxes out at around 4,000 hp (2,982 kW).
