The Ford Focus RS hot hatch is the talk of town and Ford Performance might actually have something even more hardcore in mind – a jaw-draping performance RS 500.
The high-performance RS is already a hot commodity out there but Ford is reportedly considering the RS 500 as the flagship iteration. According to company sources who decided to spill the beans to the motoring journalists, the Blue Oval is thinking about a more extreme model which could lend itself the title of “fastest-accelerating hatchback in history.” There isn’t much information to go about the RS 500 but the rumor mill talks about a different aerodynamic wide body kit complete with new front bumper with bigger air intakes and additional vents. There’s also talk of carbon fiber reinforced plastic bodywork, forged aluminum suspension components, and a carbon fiber braking system. The rework should also go for lightweighting procedures – stripped out cabin, no sound insulation as well as electronically-controlled limited-slip differentials.
The power credentials will still belong to the 2.3-liter four-cylinder EcoBoost engine but in the upgraded form it would sport about 500 horsepower. The regular one has 350 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque and is linked to an intelligent all wheel drive through a dual-clutch transmission. The Ford engineers are reportedly aiming to bring down the Audi RS3 and Mercedes-AMG A45 and thus the price would also be matched at around $57,800.
