The current flagship of the all-new 5 Series is the M550i, but we have a feeling the M5 is getting ready for prime time during the fall’s Frankfurt Motor Show as the reports about it are getting here more often.
According to the latest reports coming from the rumor mill, the new M5 is going to make a hard day for purists – or not. That’s because it will feature xDrive all-wheel drive, albeit anyone looking for the regular RWD experience will have it at the push of a button – the trump card will be the option to get 100 percent of the power to the rear wheels. This comes as a confirmation of this report actually, because someone has had the chance to see the car in person during one of the classic VIP events taking place behind closed doors. The stage in South Korea is previewing the model and the source also explained there’s even a third setup – xDrive sport.
There are also more details – new color Marina Bay Blue, jet black 20-inch wheels with silver accents, carbon fiber roof, sporty rear diffuser, trunk lid spoiler and larger mirrors than on the M3 and M4. The beating heart – the biturbo 4.4-liter V8 is said to be good for “over 600 hp” via a new eight-speed automatic gearbox instead of the seven-speed DCT, with the performance standing at 3.6 seconds for the 62 mph (100 kph) sprint.
