The Hyundai group’s brand new high-performance division appears to be looking at both the regular Hyundai and recently introduced luxury marquee Genesis to deliver its products.
Hyundai’s N Performance is being headed by an ex-BMW executive, Albert Biermann, with the executive apparently confirmed the new unit will have to deliver N Performance versions for both the mass-market Hyundai and luxury Genesis brands. Speaking on the sidelines of the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit, Biermann commented about the division’s future, though he was careful not to spill the beans. “N is a sub-brand and with N high-performance cars we work for both brands — so you have to be ready for N versions for Hyundai and for Genesis,” he was cited by motoring.com.au. We have a nice roadmap for the next five years… There will be Genesis cars included,” he added.
While coy on specifics, he did confirm the models would carry the full package; real racetrack-going high-performance cars” and the fact that he played a part in the final development stages of the Genesis G90. The roadmap for the luxury arm includes, following this year’s dealership release of the G90, as the next contender the genesis G70 – designed to fend off against the BMW 3 Series, with Biermann claiming the rear and all-wheel drive model would be more focused on performance than its bigger sibling. The executive added we need to have patience when discussing the N Performance models, as the first performance-oriented version would not come up until “two years time”.
