Carlos Ghosn is slowly becoming one of the auto industry gods – if rumors are to be believed he will be the next Mitsubishi chairman when the Japanese carmaker will reveal its new executives in December.
Mitsubishi is now thought to become fully integrated in the Renault-Nissan Alliance when 2017 starts, with Nissan reportedly preparing a major stake acquisition into the troubled Japanese company. The agreement should be worth $2.2 billion and is already awaiting legal and government approval. And according to the latest reports, when the ink dries Charlos ghosn will become the new chairman of the manufacturer, with multiple news outlets all reporting on the same scenario. So far, neither Mitsubishi nor the Renault-Nissan Alliance are officially commenting on the matter.
If Ghosn does take over Mitsubishi as well he will be the setting a new benchmark across the automotive industry, becoming the first man to head three different car companies at the same time, as he is already the CEO of both Renault and Nissan. Analysts believe he is the right man for the job, because he can simply apply the successful tactics that spurred Nissan’s renaissance – close down factories, combine architectures and streamline costs wherever possible. Mitsubishi’s president Tetsuro Aikawa resigned following the onset of the fuel economy scandal in April, and the successor is expected to be appointed during a shareholder meeting in December.
