Apparently Hyundai Vice Chairman Woong-Chul Yang has reportedly spilled the beans on the brand’s plans to have in its lineup no less than three high-performance N vehicles.
The automaker recently established a host of subbrands – the Genesis luxury and N Performance – and during a recent interview Yang said the next-generation i30 will also come with the N badging, sporting front wheel drive and a power level of less than 300 horsepower. This actually goes around the rumor from the mill that painted a somewhat “brighter” picture: all-wheel drive and turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with at least 300 hp. Yang also confirmed the reports that widely called for a N model to be wearing the Genesis moniker – though we might actually have to wait until there’s also a smaller vehicle in the lineup. The third model has not been detailed by the executive at all.
But since Yang was a little tightlipped, we decided to do some digging and found one of the latter two models should have a close relationship with the current Genesis G70 coupe. N Performance chief Albert Biermann – formerly a BMW executive – the next G70 will actually be a “whole new animal” right from the start, calling the N version a “really nice-handling car” and packing a “lot of power.” From what we heard from the whispers around the corners of the rumor mill, the model could sport the new biturbo 3.3-liter V6 engine – it currently resides under the hood of the Genesis G90 and has 365 hp but for the N Performance that will surely represent just the starting power base.
