According to the most recent report Jaguar has officially confirmed it will bring to life a new, all electric vehicle – currently in development and set to be introduced within the next couple of years.
The report mentions the news is directly taken from design director Ian Callum’s comments made during an interview on the sidelines of the ongoing New York International Auto Show. In his words Jaguar has a “big surprise” that will be revealed in the next two years and the vehicle will not be using or be “driven by a petrol engine.” Instead, the new car would be powered by “just a couple of hamsters,” the executive joked. On a serious note now, this means the rumors swirling around the rumor mill are apparently real and thus a Jaguar electric vehicle will be brought to life by the British marquee by 2018.
We still don’t know too many details about the upcoming model though – for example will it be using an existing architecture or will it be underpinned by a completely new platform? It could very well turn out to be an electric version of the F-Type or F-Pace as Jaguar recently trademarked the “I-Type” and “I-Pace” nameplates. There are also spy shots of a smaller crossover that could be called the E-Pace which is being rumored to be using both traditional and electric powertrains when it comes to life in the next years.
